Jerry, who spent his early years hunting and fishing the Bitteroots of Idaho and the Cascades of Washington, moved to St. Michael as just a young man. Since 1969, he the Alaskan wilderness has been his life.

Clara Austin, a Yupik Eskimo, was born and raised in St. Michael. Her life was spent much like Jerry's, fishing and running sled dogs with her family. In addition to her years of experience, Clara is also an exceptional chef.
