Jerry Austin had taken part in and completed the world famous Iditarod dog sled race 18 times. He is an Iditarod Charter Hall of Fame inductee, in addition, he was an to being an Alaska Master Guide with a rich lifetime of backcountry experiences rivaled by few. Jerry, Clara and their family have accumulated lifetime's worth of outdoor experiences that most can only dream of. Jerry, who spent his early years hunting and fishing the Bitteroots of Idaho and the Cascades of Washington, moved to St. Michael as just a young man. Since 1969, he the Alaskan wilderness has been was his life. Clara Austin, an Alaskan Yupik Native Eskimo, was born and raised in St. Michael. Her life was spent much like Jerry's, fishing and running sled dogs with her family. In addition to her years of experience, Clara is also an exceptional chef cook.
